1. Setup Printers

1.1 First-Time Setup for Epson Printer

If your Epson printers shipped with the DHCP disabled by default, or if a factory reset took place, you may find that the printer can only obtain the IP address of 192.168.192.168. This will cause some problems when trying to set up your printers, so this guide will walk you through the steps to re-enable DHCP and have them ready to connect to your Dinlr system.

Step 1. Reset the Epson Printer (Optional)

To confirm that the DHCP is disabled, press and hold the small pinhole button at the back of the printer for 3 seconds - you can do this real quick with a pen. (Note: DO NOT power off the printer while it's resetting)

You can skip this step if you are sure that the DHCP has been disabled, and the IP Address is 192.168.192.168.

Reset Epson Printer

Step 2. Configuring Wi-Fi Settings

Access your iPad/iPhone Wi-Fi settings, and tapping the "i" next to your currently connected network.

Configure iPad Wi-Fi

Next, under "IPv4 Address" tap on "Configure IP".

Manual iPad Wi-Fi Configuration

Change the connection method to Manual, and set the following:

  • IP Address: 192.168.192.100
  • Set Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0
  • Set Router to 192.168.192.168
  • Tap Save

Custom Wi-Fi IP Address

Step 3. Enabling DHCP on Epson Printer Settings

Now, open your Safari browser app and enter http://192.168.192.168 into the address bar.

You may get some warnings that the connection is not secure. Ignore the browser warnings and connect to the site anyway. This may look different depending on the browser app of your choice. This example shows the warning in Safari.

Safari Unsafe Warning

If you see a login prompt, enter the following credentials to access the printers configuration page:

  • Username: epson
  • Password: epson (For older printers) or enter the Printer Serial Number (For newer printers)

Epson Login

Next, under the Configuration menu, select "TCP/IP", and set the following:

  • Set "Acquiring the IP Address" to Auto
  • Tap Send
  • You will see a message confirming your changes, select Reset/Send

Epson Configuration

Your printer will reboot with the DHCP enabled.

Step 4. Revert Wi-Fi Settings

Access your iPad/iPhone Wi-Fi settings, and tapping the "i" next to your currently connected network.

Configure iPad Wi-Fi

Change the connection method to Automatic, and tap Save.

Reset iPad Wi-Fi

Access your Dinlr apps, and it will be able to detect the printer under the Printers setting.

2. Epson Printer Errors

2.1 Automatically Recoverable Errors

Printing is no longer possible when automatically recoverable errors occur. They can be recovered easily, as described below.

Error Error description Error LED flashing pattern Recovery measure
Roll paper cover open error The roll paper cover was opened during printing. Error LED flash constantly at 0.16s interval Recovers automatically when the roll paper cover is closed.
Print head temperature error A high temperature outside the head drive operating range was detected. Error LED flash constantly at 0.16s interval Recovers automatically when the print head cools.

2.2 Recoverable Errors

Printing is no longer possible when recoverable errors occur. They can be recovered easily by turning the power on again or sending an error recovery command from the driver after eliminating the cause of the error.

Error Error description Error LED flashing pattern Recovery measure
Autocutter error Autocutter does not work correctly. Error LED flash twice at 0.16s interval and stop for 2.56s Remove the jammed paper or foreign matter in the printer, close the roll paper cover, send the error recovery command, or turn the power on to recover.

2.3 Unrecoverable Errors

Printing is no longer possible when unrecoverable errors occur. The printer must be repaired.

WARNING: Turn off the power immediately when an unrecoverable error occurs.

Error Error description Error LED flashing pattern
Memory R/W error After R/W checking, the printer does not work correctly. Error LED flash twice at 0.16s interval and flash stays on for the third time
High voltage error The power supply voltage is extremely high. Error LED flash thrice at 0.16s interval and flash stays on for the fourth time
Low voltage error The power supply voltage is extremely low. Error LED flash four times at 0.16s interval and flash stays on for the fifth time
CPU execution error The CPU is executing an incorrect address. Error LED flash five times at 0.16s interval and flash stays on for the sixth time
Internal circuit connection error Internal circuits are not connected correctly. Error LED flash once at 0.16s interval and flash stays stays on for the second time

3. Star Micronics Printer Errors

3.1 Normal Status

Status Status description Ready/Error LED flashing pattern
Power off Power off status. Power off
Ready status Power is on and the ready status is enabled. Ready status
WPS running WPS is running. WPS running
WPS connection failure WPS connection failed after 120 seconds. Check that the router or access point to connect to is in WPS standby status and try the WPS connection again. WPS running

3.2 Network Link Status

Status Status description Ready/Error LED flashing pattern
Link down (Physically disconnected) Connection with destination router or access point was disconnected. Check the network status. Link down (Physically disconnected)
Link down (IP address cannot be obtained) The IP address cannot be obtained. If a DHCP server is used, check operations of the DHCP server. If a DHCP server is not used, set a proper IP address. Link down (IP address cannot be obtained)

3.3 Automatically Recoverable Errors

Error indicates it will move automatically to normal usage because the error status has recovered. The status is online.

Status Status description Ready/Error LED flashing pattern
Stops printing due to detected high temperature for the head Since the printer head temperature is high, printing has stopped. When the printer head temperature returns to a normal range, printing will resume automatically. Stops printing due to detected high temperature for the head
Stops printing due to detected high temperature for the substrate Since the substrate temperature is high, printing has stopped. When the substrate temperature returns to a normal range, printing will resume automatically. Stops printing due to detected high temperature for the substrate

3.4 Recoverable Errors

Error indicates that normal usage is possible if paper is replenished or when cover is closed or such steps are taken.

Status Status description Ready/Error LED flashing pattern
Cover open error The printer cover is open. Set the paper, close the printer cover, and it will move to the ready status. The Ready LED will display according to the network link display. (The figure indicates the ready status) Cover open error
Out of paper error The printer is out of paper. Set the paper, close the printer cover, and it will move to the ready status. The Ready LED will display according to the network link display. (The figure indicates the ready status) Out of paper error
Cutter error The cutter did not operate properly. If a paper jam is happening, remove the paper that is causing the jam after turning off the power, and move the movable part to the home position. Cutter error

3.5 Unrecoverable Errors

Try turning the power off, and then on. If the same error is displayed even after the power is turned on again, the printer must be repaired.

WARNING: Turn off the power immediately when an unrecoverable error occurs.
