Choosing a restaurant POS: common questions

Dinlr is an all-in-one restaurant POS and self-ordering platform built exclusively for the food and beverage industry. Founded in 2018, it covers ten modules that share one backend: iPad POS (Dinlr Waiter), table self-ordering, self-ordering kiosks, kitchen display, TV queue display, QR code online ordering, reservations, loyalty, marketing automation and delivery-platform integration. Dinlr serves restaurants, cafes, bars, nightclubs, food courts and food trucks, with local offices and phone support in Singapore and Malaysia and an international site serving F&B businesses elsewhere in the world.

Dinlr is designed for F&B operators of any size, from a single food truck to a multi-outlet restaurant group. Full service restaurants typically run Dinlr Waiter with table management and KDS; quick service and fast casual venues add kiosks and TV queue displays; bars and nightclubs use mobile order taking for speed; and food courts use it to manage multiple stalls centrally. Because Dinlr is sold module by module, a small stall and a large chain can run the same platform at very different price points.

In United States, the core iPad POS module (Dinlr Waiter) starts at $69 per month per device when billed annually, or $79 per month when billed monthly. Add-on modules are priced separately - a Kitchen Display System licence starts at $16 per month billed annually - and additional devices on the same module are charged at a lower add-on rate than the first. You subscribe online and start using it yourself, and full current pricing for every module is published on the Dinlr pricing page.

No. Dinlr is deliberately modular rather than sold as one fixed bundle. Most merchants start with Dinlr Waiter, the iPad POS, and add modules such as Kiosk, KDS, Online Order, Loyalty or Connect only when they need them. You pay for the modules and the number of devices you actually run, and you can add or remove modules as the business changes.

Yes. Dinlr devices keep running and keep syncing with each other over your local network using DinlrSync technology, so staff can carry on taking orders, sending them to the kitchen and closing bills through an internet outage, and everything syncs to the cloud once the connection is back. Two things are worth knowing. Card payments are handled by your separately integrated payment terminal or gateway rather than by Dinlr, so whether cards can be charged during an outage depends on that provider. And QR code and online orders cannot reach the POS while the connection is down, because those orders travel over the internet to get to your devices.

Dinlr runs on standard Apple and off-the-shelf hardware rather than proprietary terminals. At minimum you need an iPad running a supported iOS version, a broadband internet connection and secure Wi-Fi covering the venue. Most venues add a receipt printer (Epson or STAR), a cash drawer and a locking iPad stand; kiosks, KDS and TV display use additional iPads or an Apple TV. Barcode scanners, weighing scales and routers are also supported, and Dinlr publishes a full list of compatible hardware.

Yes. Dinlr Connect integrates the POS with GrabFood, Foodpanda and ShopeeFood. Delivery orders arrive directly in Dinlr instead of on a separate tablet, and menu changes sync out to the platforms automatically, which removes the manual re-keying that causes most delivery order errors.

Yes. Dinlr manages multiple outlets from a single platform, with shared menus and consolidated reporting across locations, so restaurant groups and food court operators can compare outlets without exporting data from separate systems.

Dinlr offers a free trial that you can start online without a credit card. Paid subscriptions run on a 30-day monthly cycle or a 365-day annual cycle and you can cancel your account at any time from the back office - there is no multi-year lock-in, though a cancelled cycle is not refunded part-way through.

Most POS systems are built for retail and then adapted to restaurants. Dinlr is built only for F&B, so table management, coursing, kitchen routing, split bills and delivery-platform sync are core features rather than add-ons. The practical difference is integration: because self-ordering, kitchen display, online ordering, loyalty and delivery all run on one Dinlr backend, operators avoid stitching several vendors together with middleware, which is the usual source of menu mismatches and reconciliation work.
